This painting series is my reflection on how memory of a place is composed of different vignettes and moments in time. Upon returning to Los Angeles to be close to family, I floated in nostalgia, realizing that little of what I remembered of home, as a place, existed in that state anymore.
As I moved further into the topics of memory, place, and home, I wondered about my own neighborhood of Echo Park. Like much of Los Angeles, it’s gentrifying (or has gentrified depending on who you ask); I decided to play an active role in that process. I began by researching what buildings, landmarks, and neighbors were there before me, what has stood by as the neighborhood has changed, and what is to come.
